Spyware

A Spyware is a Malware that steals personal information such as Photos, Videos, Accounts, Passwords, Geographical Location, Application Data installed, and much more. Hackers use the information collected for many purposes, most of the time and to sell the collected data.

Trojan

A Trojan is one of the most feared Malware as well as one of the most dangerous in circulation. Trojans are built upon your device automatically as a usual App, for example, a “calculator”. After a Trojan is installed on the device it tries to get administrator permissions, like this it’s very difficult to remove it.

Usually, Trojans after taking control of the device install other Malware such as Spyware, Rootkit, and Adware.

Rootkit

Rootkits are very dangerous for Android, they can destroy Android in less than a second. A Rootkit is a Malware that when executed, tries to get Root permissions through system flaws (also called Exploit) to then damage Android and make it unusable.
Nowadays there aren’t many Rootkits, Rootkits like to destroy old Android versions like Android 4.4.2 and 6.0.1

Adware

Adware is a “quiet” Malware. When installed Adware will make advertisements appear everywhere, for example, full-screen ads. The purpose of the Adware is to get you to click the advertisements shown continuously, in this way the creator will earn every time you view or click on an advertisement.

Adware can also install other Malware like Spyware, Trojans, and Rootkits.

The solution

The best solution to avoid being infected is prudence.

Hackers use people’s habits to try to get you to install an App that is actually a Malware.
These are the best practices to prevent infection

Best practices

Who has never installed an App outside the Google Play Store? Installing the App off the Google Play Store is very dangerous. You cannot know if the app you are about to install is Malware.

Never use copies of the Google Play Store, always use the Google Play Store to install an App. The only alternatives to the Google Play Store are F-Droid and Uptodown if you really want an alternative to the Google Play Store.

Best Free Anti-Malware for Android

Having an Anti-Malware is always useful. Anti-Malware can prevent an infection of your Android device.
One of the best free Anti-Malware for Android are Avast and Malwarebytes. There are other Anti-Malware such as Norton, McAfee, BitDefender, Comodo, and Panda Mobile Security.

Malwarebytes is a very smart and clever Anti-Malware. Malwarebytes protects you from any Malware. The only difference between Avast and Malwarebytes is that Malwarebytes has a larger database. Malwarebytes also protects you from manipulation attacks, for example, the false connection to a Wi-Fi network and other manipulations that can cause Malware.

How Anti-Malware protects Android?

An authentic Anti-Malware has many ways to protect Android from threats. For example, it reminds you to turn off the “Unknown sources” option to prevent an app from being installed outside the Google Play store.

An Anti-Malware scans Android and installed Apps in search of Malware. If found a Malware the Anti-Malware will try to remove it.

An Anti-Malware usually asks you to scan the package (.apk) before installing it. Like this, it is very difficult for Malware to be installed.

Fake Anti-Malware

There are many apps on the Google Play Store that say they are “Anti-Malware”. An authentic Anti-Malware is AV-TEST and/or AV-COMPARATIVES certified.

A fake Anti-Malware is a Malware that tries to deceive you by stealing information and uninstalling (if installed) the authentic Anti-Malware on your Android device. We recommend that you do not use any certified Anti-Malware at all.
