An Anti-Malware is a program or application that acts as the protector of the Operating System (OS).
Today, Anti-Malware software (also called Anti-Virus) is an important part of protecting our computers and our private lives. Anti-virus applications keep our computers safe from more than just viruses; it also fends off spyware, Trojans and other forms of malware that can ruin a computer or steal private information, which can ultimately lead to identity theft.
First know Malware/Virus
The first known virus was created in 1971 and was dubbed The Creeper Virus. This virus was spread using the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET), the world’s first digital networking communications method, which was funded by the United States Department of Defense and used by government research groups and universities. When the computers were infected, the message “I’m the creeper, catch me if you can!” appeared on the screen as it replicated itself to spread to other computers within the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network.
The Creeper Virus was eventually deleted by a program known as The Reaper. You may consider The Reaper the first antivirus software, but the word “virus” wasn’t used as the official name of a computer invasion of this type until it was coined by American computer scientist Frederick B. Cohen in 1983.
History of Anti-Malware Industry
In 1990, in Spain, Mikel Urizarbarrena founded Panda Security (Panda Software).
AV-Comparatives is an Austrian independent organization that tests and assesses antivirus software, regularly releasing charts and reports that are freely available to the public and the media. Anti-Virus vendors have to meet various requirements regarding trustworthiness and reliability in order to take part in the tests.
AV-Comparatives issues relevant awards, based on antivirus software’s comprehensive performance according to multiple testing criteria. It is also supported by the University of Innsbruck and other academic bodies from around the world, as well as by the Austrian Federal Government and the regional government of Tirol.

How it works
Every Anti-Malware has a proper way of working. Usually Anti-Malware and Anti-Spyware are use the digital fingerprint of a File like the MD5, SHA-1 or SHA-256.
When an Anti-Malware scans the Operating System (OS), this calculates the digital fingerprint of each File and compares it with the Database. So the larger the database the more accurate the Anti-Malware will be
What is an Anti-Spyware? and what are the differences between an Anti-Malware and an Anti-Spyware?
An Anti-Spyware is a program or application that has the same scanner function as an Anti-Malware, but an Anti-Spyware serves to protect itself from Spyware, AdWare, Malicous Cookies and other things that a common Anti-Malware will never find.
Should I use it?
Yes, a common Anti-Malware cannot find Malware in Chrome or Firefox (or the broser you use). An advantage of having an Anti-Spyware is the Camera and Microphone protection even if most Anti-Malware like Avast Premier include it.
